Welcome to
Faith In Action/
IVC of the Alleghenies!
Faith in Action is an interfaith volunteer caregiving
initiative of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Local Faith in Action
programs bring together volunteers from many faiths to work together to
care for their neighbors who have long-term health needs.
Faith in Action volunteers come from churches, synagogues, mosques and other houses of worship, as well as the community at large. Volunteers help those in need by providing nonmedical assistance with tasks such as:
-
providing a ride to the doctor, grocery store, hair salon, etc.
-
Home safety checks (throw rugs, electrical cords and other tripping
hazards; smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, etc.)
-
Light chores
-
respite for caregivers living in the home
-
picking up a few groceries or running errands
-
minor household repairs
-
friendly visiting
-
telephone reassurance
-
reading or helping to pay bills
-
linkage to available services
With this volunteer assistance, members of the community who have long-term health needs can maintain their independence for as long as possible.
Faith in Action/Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of the
Alleghenies is a collaborative effort among several local agencies
to promote the program and increase awareness and volunteerism. North
Hills Community Outreach is responsible for administrative oversight of
the program. To request help or to learn more about becoming a volunteer,
please contact the agency nearest you
or call 412-307-0071 to speak with a Faith in Action staff member
at North Hills Community Outreach. |
